CORE-MATH FELLOWSHIPS IN MATHEMATICS AT UPPSALA UNIVERSITY

The Africa-Europe Cluster of Research Excellence in Mathematics (CoRE-Math), with Uppsala University as The Guild Co-lead and Makerere University as the ARUA Co-lead, offers six fellowships for PhD students, postdocs, and senior researchers to spend up to three months at Uppsala University, Sweden, in 2025. These prestigious fellowships are fully funded by Uppsala University, providing a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge mathematical research. Applications from women researchers are strongly encouraged.
Research Areas
Algebra: Finite-dimensional representation theory, commutative rings and ideal theory
Analysis: Fourier analysis, function spaces, inequalities, interpolation theory
Computer-assisted Proofs
Dynamical Systems, Celestial Mechanics
Geometry and Topology
Probability Theory and Stochastic Processes
Statistics

Eligibility Requirements
PhD students at one of the African CoRE-Math universities. Postdocs from one of the African universities who obtained their PhD degree no earlier than 2020. Well-established senior researchers from one of the African universities. All applicants are expected to show evidence of being active in research. Successful applicants shall be required to commence their fellowships anytime from September 2025 to November 2025, depending on the suitability of the timing, as will be decided by the host.

Motivational letter, CV, description of current research, list of publications (including DOI), and support letter from the PhD supervisor (PhD students) or Head of Department (postdocs and senior researchers). Submit your application in a zipped file marked with your name in a letter with the subject “CoRE-Math Fellowships in Mathematics” to ulrika.kolsmyr@isp.uu.se.
Decision Notification
Successful applicants shall be notified of the decision by June 13, 2025.

An application for UKZN to participate in CoRE-Math has been welcomed by the existing partners, and the documentation is being put together to finalize the process. For the purpose of this fellowship, applicants from UKZN are considered eligible as if the institution were a CoRE partner.
