Stellenbosch University joins CoRE-Math

4 November 2026

Stellenbosch University in South Africa joined the Africa–Europe Cluster of Research Excellence in Mathematics (CoRE-Math) in June 2026, strengthening the network’s research collaboration across Africa and Europe.

Stellenbosch is already an active participant in the Africa–Europe Clusters of Research Excellence initiative. It leads or co-leads clusters in artificial intelligence and data science, genomics, climate change adaptation and renewable energy. It also participates in clusters addressing multimorbidity and sustainable development.

Of particular interest to CoRE-Math is Stellenbosch’s collaboration with Uppsala University in the CoRE on artificial intelligence, data science and computational thinking. This creates opportunities for connections between mathematics and other research areas across the Africa–Europe CoRE network.

CoRE-Math welcomes Stellenbosch University and looks forward to developing joint research and educational activities with colleagues at the university.
