Mathematics and industry meet in Kampala
10 June 2026 · Kampala, Uganda
Researchers, mathematicians and representatives from industry and society met at Makerere University on 8–10 June 2026 for a Mathematics in Industry Contact Workshop organised within CoRE-Math and the NORHED II Mathematics for Sustainable Development (Math4SDG) project.
The workshop explored how mathematical modelling, data science and computational methods can contribute to challenges in areas including health, urban development, energy, finance, agriculture and the environment. A central aim was to identify practical problems that could be developed further through Study Groups with Industry and follow-up research collaboration.
The workshop forms part of CoRE-Math’s developing work in industrial mathematics, connecting universities with partners outside academia and creating pathways from practical problems to mathematical research.
