Makerere University Mathematical Society launched

The Makerere University Mathematical Society (MUMS) was officially launched on 2 October 2026. The society aims to transform how mathematics is perceived, used and enjoyed at Makerere University, while promoting innovation and excellence in the mathematical sciences.

The establishment of MUMS followed Pi Day celebrations in Nakaseke District, Uganda, and a call to action from Professor Betty Kivumbi Nannyonga. The society aims to create a hub for mathematical innovation, bringing together people interested in mathematics and encouraging its application to contemporary challenges.
The launch represents a new initiative to strengthen the mathematical community at Makerere University and promote greater engagement with mathematics.
