Four CoRE-Math fellowships at UKZN for 2027

7 October 2026 · KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

CoRE-Math is offering four fully funded fellowships for research visits to the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in South Africa in 2027.

The fellowships are open to PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and established senior researchers from the African CoRE-Math universities. Fellows will spend up to three months at UKZN, working with researchers in the Discipline of Mathematics. The fellowships are fully funded by UKZN and include a monthly stipend, accommodation, return travel, medical insurance and visa costs. Applications from women researchers are strongly encouraged.

The programme offers opportunities for collaboration across a broad range of areas, including algebra, analysis, computational mathematics, differential geometry, fluid dynamics, mathematical physics, numerical analysis and topology.

The research visits will take place between March and June 2027. Applicants should indicate the research area in which they would like to work and identify potential collaborators at UKZN. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to develop a more detailed proposal jointly with prospective host researchers.

Application deadline: 31 October 2026.

Applications should include a motivation letter, CV, description of current research and proposed work at UKZN, a selected publication list, and a letter of support. Applications should be submitted as a zipped file marked with the applicant’s name, with the subject “CoRE-Math Fellowships”, to AmeryG1@ukzn.ac.za.
