Past Events inventory audit
Audit date: 20 October 2026 Scope: Activities from 2024 onward, plus selected earlier activities that are material to the history of a current programme, project or research group. This is a repository audit only: it does not independently verify external sources or create Event records.
Summary
The Events collection currently contains 14 records. Six are historical as of the audit date:
- four EAALG workshops (2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025);
- the 2026 School on Arithmetic, Geometry and Algorithms; and
- the 2026 Kampala Study Group with Industry.
The collection therefore represents EAALG well, but omits several clearly documented activities from the current CoRE-Math period. The strongest additions are the 2024 and 2025 EAUMP–ICTP schools, the 2025 East African Mathematical Olympiad, the June 2026 Kampala contact workshop, and the 2026 African–Nordic Conference.
This audit examined 45 news posts, all six programme pages, six project pages, four research-group pages, the Education and Outreach pages, the Previous schools archive, and the Events collection. It intentionally excludes routine seminars, individual degree defences, grant announcements, and internal partnership meetings.
A. Confirmed missing events
These entries have enough information in the repository to create a concise Event record without inventing dates, locations or relationships.
| Event | Dates | Location | Organisers or relationship | Source and existing page | Suggested Event association |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EAUMP–ICTP School on the Mathematics of AI | 8–26 July 2024 | Makerere University, Uganda | EAUMP and ICTP; part of the school tradition on which CoRE-Math Schools builds | Previous schools | type: school; historical school / CoRE-Math Schools lineage |
| East African Mathematical Olympiad, third edition | 2 June 2025 | Online; University of Rwanda, Kigali, as coordination hub | Regional EAMO activity; 10 countries participated | News post; Mathematics Competitions | type: mathematics-competition; programme: mathematics-competitions |
| EAUMP–ICTP School on Real and Harmonic Analysis | 21 July–1 August 2025 | University of Rwanda, Rwanda | EAUMP and ICTP; reported as the 2025 annual school | Previous schools; News post | type: school; historical school / CoRE-Math Schools lineage |
| Mathematics in Industry Contact Workshop | 8–10 June 2026 | Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda | CoRE-Math and the NORHED II Math4SDG project | News post; Math4SDG | type: research-workshop or a contact-workshop type; programme: study-groups-with-industry; project: math4sdg |
| Second African–Nordic Conference in Mathematics | 11–14 August 2026 | Arusha, Tanzania | Math4SDG, CoRE-Math, ISP and Sida | News post; Math4SDG | type: research-workshop or conference type; project: math4sdg |
B. Events requiring verification or additional information
The repository indicates that these activities occurred or were planned, but an Event record should not be created until the missing information or CoRE-Math relationship is confirmed.
| Potential event | Information available | What remains to verify | Repository source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seventh Rwanda Mathematics Competition, provincial second stage | 21 February 2025, Rwanda | The contemporaneous post says it was being conducted, but gives neither a city nor confirmation after the activity | News post; Mathematics Competitions |
| CIMPA School on Effective Algebra and the LMFBD | Began 13 January 2025 at Makerere University | End date, formal organisers and whether it belongs in the CoRE-Math historical-school record | News post |
| Classical and New Approaches for Modeling Life Science Problems / ETICAM-2 | School: 10–11 February 2025; workshop: 12–13 February 2025; Addis Ababa University and University of Naples collaboration | Whether either activity was organised, co-organised or supported by CoRE-Math or an associated programme | News post |
| Kenya Pi Day competitions | 15 March 2025, Kenya | Organiser, exact venue and documented CoRE-Math or programme relationship | News post |
| International Day of Mathematics activities in Tanzania | 14 March 2025, Zanzibar; included school-project competitions | Organisers and whether this should be recorded as a single outreach event rather than a news report about several activities | News post |
| ESPIDAM 2025 | 23–27 June 2025, Department of Mathematics, Stockholm University | Whether it was a CoRE-Math, partner-network or merely externally relevant activity | News post |
| Austria–Uganda Workshop in Geometry and Representation Theory | 22–23 July 2025, Vienna | Confirm association with EAALG/Uganda–Austria collaboration and identify organisers | News post; EAALG |
| SAMSA Conference 2025 | 25–28 November 2025, Livingstone, Zambia | Whether this was organised, co-organised or supported by CoRE-Math rather than simply relevant to a member university | News post |
| First African–Nordic Conference in Mathematics | October 2022, Makerere University; part of Math4SDG’s history | Exact dates, title and organisers before selective historical inclusion | Math4SDG |
| WiS-Africa workshops in Burundi (2024) and Tunisia (2025) | Years, countries and programme context are recorded | Exact dates, venues and the appropriate relationship: Women in Math lists WiS-Africa as a related initiative, not a CoRE-Math programme | Women in Math |
C. Already represented in Past Events
The following should not receive duplicate records.
| Existing Event record | Coverage already provided |
|---|---|
| 1st EAALG Workshop: Introduction to Homological Algebra and Discrete Geometry | Online, 13–16 December 2021 |
| 2nd EAALG Workshop: Some Topics in Algebra and Geometry | Makerere University, 14–18 August 2023 |
| 3rd EAALG Workshop: Some Topics in Algebra and Geometry | Makerere University, 25–29 November 2024 |
| EAALG Workshop and 10th Anniversary Nairobi Workshop in Algebraic Geometry | Nairobi and Masai Mara, 11–19 September 2025. This already covers the workshop described by the related 2025 Nairobi news post. |
| 2026 School on Arithmetic, Geometry and Algorithms | Addis Ababa University, 17–28 August 2026 |
| Study Group with Industry in Kampala | Kampala, 21 September 2026 in the current Event record; the related content records the event as 21–25 September. Its description also records the preceding June contact workshop, but a separate record is recommended because that workshop had its own dates, purpose and Math4SDG relationship. |
Exclusions and duplicate controls
- The European-partners kick-off meeting in Uppsala (14–15 October 2024) is documented in the News Archive, but is an internal partnership meeting and should remain excluded under this audit’s scope.
- Monthly or individual seminars, including AECC online seminars, NITheCS seminars and the February 2026 UKZN seminar, are routine seminar activity and should not become Past Events records.
- Individual PhD defences, graduations, awards, fellowship announcements and grant announcements are newsworthy but are not Events for this register.
- The Previous schools page is a valuable separate historical archive. Its 2004–2020 records should not be migrated wholesale merely to enlarge Past Events. The 2024 and 2025 schools are recommended because they fall within, or immediately precede, the active CoRE-Math period and have complete core metadata.
- Future activities mentioned in News, such as the December 2026 AIMS Senegal optimal-transport school, are outside a Past Events audit and should be assessed separately for the Events collection.
Recommendations
- Add the five confirmed missing events first, using the indicated programme/project associations and retaining the original News or historical-school pages as supporting material.
- Verify the ten uncertain entries through their linked announcements or programme coordinators before deciding whether to include them. Do not infer CoRE-Math support merely because an event appeared in the News Archive.
- Reconcile the Kampala SGI Event record’s missing end date with the documented 21–25 September 2026 duration. This is a metadata-completeness issue, not a missing Event.
- Establish an authoring check for future news posts: when a post reports a dated, significant activity, decide at publication time whether an Events record is also required and record the relationship metadata then.
- Keep the Previous schools archive as the comprehensive pre-2024 history. Use the Events collection for selected historical records only when they are needed for a current programme, project or research-group timeline.
Follow-up verification — 20 October 2026
Five further records were verified and added to the Events collection: the 2025 Rwanda Mathematics Competition provincial second stage; the Makerere–CIMPA School on Effective Algebra and the LMFDB (13–24 January 2025); Kenya Pi Day competitions (15 March 2025); the Austria–Uganda Workshop in Geometry and Representation Theory (22–23 July 2025, Vienna); and the Joint African–Nordic Conference in Mathematics (1–4 August 2023, Makerere University).
The original first African–Nordic candidate was described as a 2022 event. Contemporary material documents a 27–29 October 2022 announcement, but later institutional records identify the conference that took place as the four-day 1–4 August 2023 event. The Event record therefore uses the verified 2023 dates and does not create an unsupported 2022 record.
The remaining research candidates require the following treatment:
- ETICAM-2: externally confirmed as a 10–13 February 2025 Addis Ababa event of the Naples–Addis Ababa Scientific Cooperation (NAA∫CO), but no CoRE-Math or associated-programme relationship is documented. Recommend exclusion unless that relationship is established.
- ESPIDAM 2025: externally confirmed at Stockholm University on 23–27 June 2025, supported by Stockholm University and NordForsk. No CoRE-Math, programme, project or research-network relationship is documented. Recommend exclusion.
- Women in Sage–Burundi (2024) and Women in Sage–Tunisia (2025): dates, venues and organisers are now documented, but Women in Math presents WiS-Africa as a related initiative rather than a CoRE-Math programme, project or formal partner. Recommend deferring inclusion unless the archive is explicitly expanded to cover related-initiative events.
- International Day of Mathematics activities in Tanzania: the repository confirms 14 March 2025 in Zanzibar and school-project competitions, but does not identify organisers or a documented CoRE-Math relationship. Recommend exclusion pending a reliable local source.
